Fancy That

I have got in and I have no idea how.  So much I have missed saying.

Had a good flight. First leg with a lady who is the head of the Arts Dept at UQ. Second leg with a short plump guy from NSW in his tracky dacks. Slept and then in the middle of the night had a meal. Followed later buy a full brekky.  Flew off the plane as if his life depended on it.\

Stayed in Citivavecchia which was good and took the day train to Rome.  Did the hop on hop off bus trip.  Too many people at the Vatican and the Trevi Fountain.  had lunch and then a thunder storm errupted and spent the time chatting with a guy from San Diego.

Was first at the ship so, as the reception staff were all new, I was used as the demo for them.

Met some nice people specially my next door neighbours who come from Derbyshire. Done some good trips in various ports to-days being one of the best.  Won Trivia last night and nearly did so again to-day with a different group each time.

Last night had dinner with 6 of us hosted by 2 of the entertainers. A married couple wife a singer- not heard her yet- and he is a comic and quite good.  enjoyed his show.

Sea day tomorrow so will have bridge lesson etc.

Weather has been good all the way with only a short shower yesterday.

Will try and do more tomorrow if I can get in!!!

Hot

Sam and I have just panted our way upstairs - it seems so steamy to-day.  First game of bridge for the year not too many mistakes luckily.

Suzie and I went to Wicked for her birthday.  Looking for a park was a real problem as the QPAC parks are still closed.  We all parked under the convention centre - lucky there was no expo on.  Enjoyed the show but not as good as I expected.  A bit disappointed in the Good Fairy who had a very harsh voice altho her acting was good.  No real memorable songs in it.

The other day we went to see Black Swan - what a disaster that was.  A sort of grown up Omen type film.  Ending was so ludicrous many of us were laughing.  Suzie had her eyes shut half of the time as she does not like blood and gore.

Dick and Hil seem to be coping with the Nursing Home OK but could do with a good meal!

Here we go again

Feeling very hot and bothered as it is so humid. We were very lucky in the floods only about a metre of water or should I say drain effluent in the basement. Got most of our things out. Threw the rest away when the water went down. A fair bit of angst about the lifts. none of us knew that you could wind the lifts up as they were caught in the basement when we were all clearing our cages and the electricity went off. Hence in the words of our manager they are "shot". Three flights of stairs a few times a day should be good for the figure if not the knees. Sam sits and looks at the lift with longing everytime we come back from a walk. Certainly limits the shopping I can carry.

Went to stay with Judy and Sid while the electricity was off which was really enjoyable. Their dog Fred was cut off in the floods as it had been boarded while they were in Canberra for X-mas. So Sam had the run of the place. Was good having a garden he could just slip out to for a wee.

The shops are begining to fill up again and such things as tomatoes are appearing again even if costing their weight in gold. Gots lots of stuff to use up over the next few days that I had in Julie's fridge.

I am looking quite a fright having had a BCC on the bridge of my nose treated on Monday. very sore perching my glasses just above the treated bit. Also one on my leg but that is OK. The light they shine on it is so bright that you can still see it with your eyes shut under a pair of dark glasses covered in alfoil! Got to go thru it again in 2 weeks time. Oh dear!

The river still looks revolting and is still quite high. I am hoping that in a couple of weeks or so the cross river ferry may start as the Oxford Street ferry stop seems OK now it is cleaned and the pontoon the other side seems OK as well. Keep our fingers crossed.

Been to the movies a few times. King's Speech good, Social Network passable, goodness knows why it is up for an Oscar it was more of a documentary really. Tho' the lead actor was very good. Burlesque Suzie and I enjoyed as it is exactly what one would expect of that type of musical. I wish Sher had had a few more numbers tho.

Enough of my rambling. Too lazy to correct any typos!!

Better Late than Never

Well got up in the morning of 30 Nov to snow falling which was quite a surprise really because it is usually quite protected where Dick lives. Driver of Parker cars arrived a little late grumbling about poor drivers in the snow. Luckily he knew a 'back doubles' way around one of those road works that uses traffic lights. Mind you had to travel over what seemed miles of calming bumps. Would never have got to Heathrow on time if he had not done this as when we cleared the area the traffic going the other way was banked up for over a mile. He came from Poland so was used to all the snow.

Flight took of about an hour late as we had to sit through the de-icing. It left just before noon but works on Singapore time so when we had our meal it was dinner and we were supposed to have a sleep after that!! Not my way to sleep at what was in essence aboout 6.00pm. Watched some quite good movies one a french one with Gerard Depardeux which was very good.

Left wearing vest, jumper, cardigan, scarf and overcoat arrived Singapore divesting myself of what I could but still hot and steamy. Got to Sheraton too early for a room to be ready so changed into better clothes in the pool change rooms and lay down on one of the pool lounges. Good old me went to sleep and managed to get a bit of a sunburnt face!!

Got my room, had a bit of a kip. Down for afternoon tea. Later on another sit around the pool and the compulsory Pina Colada. Dinner in the Italian Restaurant.

Up with the lark to catch the 10.00am plane home. Caught up with Avatar and to my surprise enjoyed it.

Rich picked me up and brought me home and didn't run out of petrol this time - but that is another story.

Suzie brought my Sam back yesterday but I think he was a bit off hand with me! However has forgiven me now.

Opened all the letters, paid the bills, gone out for walks between showers so life is back to normal!!

LATEST FROM LONDON

GET THE WEATHER OUT OF THE WAY FIRST! VERY NIPPY WITH FROST ON THE GROUND IN THE MORNING BUT EITHER SUNNY OR OVERCAST. ONLY A COUPLE OF DRIZZLY TIMES.

HILARY AND I ARE NAGGING DICK TO TRY AND GET HIM TO STAND STRAIGHTER AS HE IS WALKING. WE ARE WORKING ON TRYING TO GET A PHYSIO TO COME.

WENT TO SARAH AND HUGH'S ON SUNDAY. ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF IN THE CAR. THEN WE ALL WENT TO A PUB GALLED THE CHASER. GOT THERE AT 12.45 AND FINALLY GOT OUR FOOD JUST AFTER 2.00!! I MUST SAY THAT ALICE AND EMILY WERE REALLY GOOD. FINALLY GOT OUT OF THERE ABOUT 4.00PM . THAT MEANT HIL HAD TO DRIVE THE LAST HOUR OF THE JOURNEY IN THE DARK WHICH SHE DID NOT ENJOY. I CANNOT SHARE ANY OF THE DRIVING AS YOU HAVE TO GET SPECIAL INSURANCE CLEARANCE.

QUITE A REVALATION IN MARKS AND SPARKS AND WAITROSE OF THE PACKAGED READY TO EAT OR COOK THINGS THAT YOU CAN BUY. HAVE NOT BEEN TO ANY ACTUAL SHOPPING SHOPS YET. MIGHT TRY THIS WEEK.

GOING UP TO OXFORD FOR LUNCH WITH JUDY AND DAUGHTER SALLY ON FRIDAY SO LETS HOPE WE CAN GET DICK MOBILISED TO LEAVE BY 10.30 SO WE DO NOT HAVE A REPEAT OF THE LATE DRIVING HOME.

PLENTY OF DRINKIES WITH VARIOUS NEIGHBOURS WHICH IS NICE. A FRIEND OF THEIRS WHO LIVES HERE FROM USA CAME TO DRINKS WITH HER SISTER WHO WAS OVER FROM THE STATES. SHE WORKS FOR DISNEY IN LA AND WAS VERY EXCITED IN GIVING THEM THESE PRESENTS OF VERY ODD PLASTIC FIGURINES ONE OF WHICH LOOKS LIKE A BLACK BEAR WITH BAD TOOTHACHE!

DICK WANTS TO GO AND SEE HARRY POTTER SO WE MIGHT DO THAT ONE DAY THIS WEEK.

HOPE MY LITTLE SAM IS THINKING OF ME?

WILL TRY TO FIND SOMETHING MORE INTERESTING TO SAY. OUR MEMOIRS ARE COMING ALONG WELL HOWEVER. BUT THERE IS ALOT MORE TO GO, SO THAT WILL KEEP US BUSY.

First days

WELL HERE `I AM. JOURNEY SEEMED LONGER THAN USUAL, PERHAPS OLD AGE CATCHING UP. THE PLANE WAS NOT VERY FULL SO GETTING A TURN AT THE TOILET WAS A BREEZE.

ARRIVED EARLY AND MET BY A REALLY NICE DRIVER FROM PARKER CARS WHO WAS FROM GHANA. 5 DEGREES IF YOU DON'T MIND. DICK LOOKING QUITE GOOD THO' NOT TOO GOOD ON HIS FEET. USES A ZOOMER FRAME AS EMILY AND ALICE CALL IT. WE ARE CONSTANTLY NAGGING HIM TO WALK MORE UPRIGHT AS HE SEEMS TO PUSH IT FAR AHEAD AND THEN CATCH IT UP!

ATE TOO MUCH FOR DINNER AND THEN TO BED. NEXT DAY WHAT DO YOU SUPPOSE COULD NOT SEE A HAND INFRONT OF YOUR FACE FOR FOG. IT LASTED ALL DAY AND ALL THE FLIGHTS INTO LHR WERE CANCELLED. HOW LUCKY CAN YOU GET. BY THIS MORNING IT HAD LIFTED BECUSE IT WAS FREEZING COLD AND RAINING - CAN'T WIN 'EM ALL! CHEERED UP DURING THE DAY ALTHOUGH STILL VERY COLD.

SPENT MOST OF YESTERDAY STARTING ON THE FAMILY HISTORY SO THE FOG OUTSIDE DIDN'T MATTER. LONG WAY TO GO BUT DICK IS AN UNENDING SOURCE OF INFORMATION. SAYS I KEEP INTERRUPTING HIS FLOW WHEN I ASK A QUESTION.

HE HAS BEEN WORKING IN HIS OFFICE TO=DAY CATCHING UP FROM BEING IN HOSPITAL SO CONTINUING THE SAGA TOMORROW. OFF TO DINNER NOW.
